My wife and I were driving down main street in Moab, Utah when the word "barbecue" flashed at the corner of my eye. I was able to react fast enough to steer our GMC Denali off the road and into their parking lot. We had traveled to Moab that day for a photography trip and had spent the better half of the day in Canyonlands looking for photographs to create. We were tired and hungry; this place looked like it would fix us right up. The restaurant was called the Blue Pig. The hostess took us right to a seat as a waitress was already placing glasses of water on the table. Now this is a barbecue joint so it was not going to be the cheapest restaurant in town, but all we cared about was some good smoked meat! While there were some expensive things on the menu they had some very reasonable items also. My wife chose reasonable. Me, not so much. My wife chose pulled pork tacos from the appetizers section. I went for a tri tip sandwich which came with a side, in my case coleslaw. I wish I had thought to photograph my sandwich before I downed a third of it, but hey, I was hungry! They had two different sauces, one they called Kansas City Style and the other Texas Style. I preferred the Texas version. We liked the food so much that we came back the next day for more. This time I had hiked close to two miles, carrying camera gear, in the morning to get a distant view of Delicate arch in Arches National Park. Later I met up with some high school kids from a school I teach at who were taking a week long delve into photography. We made the three mile hike into Delicate arch. (It was against my better judgement as I was suffering a cold and was quite congested, but I went and I made it.}The bottom line here is that I was starving by the time I got to the Blu Pig! This time around we decided to order one Tri Tip Big N Nasty to share. It was more food than the both of us could eat. Meat and beans over fresh french fries. Loved every bit of it - although we couldn't eat all of it. They have blues music playing in the background - live music during parts of the year - to add to the atmosphere. If you are headed to Moab and you like good service, the blues and barbecue, the Blu Pig is a must do!
