Today was Grandparents Day where two of my grandchildren go to school. So we jumped into the car and drove on hour to the small town where they live. I snapped an experimental series of photographs of all of the children in the entire school singing to us. I was right up front and didn't have a wide enough lens to capture the kids with one shot so I winged it, starting from the left, then center, and finally to the right to give me enough images to create the panoramic photograph I have here. I'm showing it to give you visual of what I'm talking about when I say small. There are three teachers and a couple of aids. The teachers teach multiple grade levels at one time. Something like Kindergarten and first, then second, third, and fourth, followed be fifth and sixth. (I could be slightly off on the pairing.) The school district keeps a close eye on them, but their testing scores have been so good they are allowed to get out early on Thursday and stay home on Friday! Sure would have enjoyed that when I was young! What impresses me is every adult at the school seems to know every child in the school - even the lunch lady knows them all. My grandchildren walk out the door, pass one empty lot, the local church, and then they are at school. One of these days I might just move out there where everyday would be a memory. While the places I live were not so small, it felt like it when I left the house and didn't come home until dinner! While I'm not so young anymore, spending time with my grandchildren on Grandparents day made me feel that way.
