I used to ready a lot, but when I once I started flying airplanes that was the end of that! Spending so much time in technical manuals killed my desire to pick up a book for fun. I don't fly anymore, but still I rarely do any pleasure reading. But this time was different, my son, Rob York, was writing his first set books under the name of H.R.Grimly. I went to his Kickstarter page and made an investment in his future, buying a limited addition hard cover book that contains his first four stories. Then I waited... It was a long wait, but one day he walked into the house and handed me my copy! I was excited, but had a lot on my plate so it was a few weeks before I finally sat down and started to read it. The stories contained in the book are for young kids. (Most of the leading characters in the book are 12 years old.) Anyway I was amazed how fast the stories drew me in. The book was well written and had me reading faster and faster, not wanting to put it down until I got to the end. And when I made it to the end it was always an unusual surprise. The stories are divided into many short chapters making it easy to hold a preteen. I haven't talked to him about the book yet, but I'm guessing he did that on purpose. It works. My guess is if you get your children interested in Frightland your afternoon will turn into a quiet one! The first four books are entitled "The Wildman of Shaggy Creek", "Why I Don't Sleep on Featherbeds", The Bones at the Bottom of the Lake", and "Doughnut Shop of Doom". It's a fun read, full of suspense, even for an old geezer! I was lucky to get the special addition with all four stories, you'll most likely buy them in soft cover books, one story at a time. Good for kids and adults! Five stars for sure!
