Not long ago I talked about investing in a Synology raid backup system for my photography business. While it is possible to hook the Synology directly to the computer, the normal method it to hook it into your router so that you can access the images and more importantly upload images when you are out of town. So if you are out of town shooting a wedding for instance, you can backup your files before you head for home. I made the decision to go through the router. but that created a small problem for me. My system is wireless and sits quite a ways from my office computer where I do my work. When I transferred data from my old hard drive system I discovered the transfer rate to be very slow despite a new updated modem and router. I called my nephew, an electrician, who came over and routed a Cat5 wire from the room with the router to my office. I discovered the kid is a genius and very good at what he does. After he finished up I waited for the explosion as I connected the Cat5 to the computer. Nothing happened! My transfer rate went from 12 megabytes per second to over 100. Accessing the files on the Synology and working them in Photoshop is screaming fast. Thanks McGregor for a job well done. Just in time for my Santa Experience season when I have little time to accomplish a lot of work. I gladly paid his fee and went back to work! McGregor is definitely on the "Nice List!"
