I was thinking of topics for my blog and realized there were lots of things from the year I had not got around to sharing. In August we drove out to Steamboat Springs, Colorado to visit some dear friends. I can say I'd flown over the town many times in my airline career, but had never actually been there. Steamboat Springs turned out to be a busy place, at least downtown, where the streets were packed with cars and where people could be found everywhere enjoying the summer activities. Fortunately my friends lived a ways out of town in a house nestled in the aspens on a mountainside. They had a couple of hummingbird feeders out on the back porch that were the constant hub of activity as the hummers buzzed in and out looking for their fill of sugar. I found peace out on the deck in the early morning photographing them. A second place I found respite was the Yampa River Botanical Gardens along the Yampa river closer to town. The Lilly pads in a large pond were in bloom and the light was dappled as it peeked through and lit the flowers. As with the hummingbirds I got lost in another world as I moved around with my camera and tripod. Mother Nature always comes through for me, drawing me out of the busy world around me and feeding me peace as I work to capture her beauty.
