I was strolling near the waterfront in Venice when the gondoliers began jeering, and waving their fists at a police boat passing by. I was photographing architecture with a wide angle lens and couldn't photograph it. I don't even know the story. Did they just not like the police in boats, did the police just hand out a ticket to one of them, or were they too restrictive in their enforcement of the law? I'll never know. But in my wandering around the city filled with canals it seems natural that they would have police in boats. I didn't think of it until I found this police station. I could imagine that blue light flashing and several police boats coming out of the tunnels. (The other thought that came to my mind was a submarine pen, but I thinks a 300 foot long submarine would have an impossible time making the turn in the tight canal!) I didn't have the time to just sit and wait for something to happen so I snapped this shot and moved on. Pretty interesting though to have police in boats and not on horseback or in cars!
