We had been in Italy for over a week when we drove onto the temple grounds. Built by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day
Saints, the Rome temple stands majestically on the outskirts of, well, Rome. It's an absolutely stunning structure towering over those who wander the temple grounds. The visitor's center not only houses a replica of the Christus, but also additional marble statues of the original twelve apostles. The parking lot is done in brick like you see over much of Italy and they have 4 or 5 olive trees planted on the grounds that are around 500 years old. I started photographing from the west side as the sun was low in the sky then went back to it about sunset for as long as I had light. When the photography was over we walked down to a local Pizzeria with a couple we met while we were there and ended our day breaking bread with two new friends. After a couple of cell-phone shots and some hugs we headed back to our hotel to rest up for our next adventure.
