The first competition of the year is not alwaya my best. There are various reasons I guess. I'm testing out possible images for the first time, the competition comes up too soon and I'm not totally ready, Or I try something off the wall that doesn't take, etc. The ASP competition this year was a little disappointing to me. It was rescheduled for an earlier date than last year making it the first trial for my photographs. I was somewhat rushed, plus I was experimenting with the borders around the images. My experiment was a bit of a flop. That's OK because it was a learning experience. I also had an image I thought would be through the roof and it turned out not to do that well. In any case the February competition was not my best showing and I moved on, preparing for the March IPPA competition. But the other day I had a pleasant surprise when I received a large envelop from ASP in the mail. I opened it to find two Judges Choice certificates inside. Tim Meyer and Lisa Dillon, accomplished photographers and PPA certified jurors, had each chosen one of my images as their top pick. I know both of them. I had actually studied lighting under Tim Meyer back in 2019. When a set of five judges doesn't score your print as well as you like it might be that one or two of their scores brings down the average, but when a judge you respect chooses an image as his or her favorite, that is something to be proud of. When you receive two, well that is through the roof! Both of those photographs went on to do very well in the IPPA and district competitions. One of them received my first ever perfect score of 100! Now it's on to the Professional Photographers of America's International Print Competition. For that reason I had to blur out the names of the prints and I can not share them at the moment, but for the moment I'm proud that two of the judges chose my images as their favorites. It's an accolade that has me doing the happy dance!
