I know we live in a world of color, but sometimes think images are more compelling in black and white. I attended a week-long class on photographic studio lighting. The instructor taught us to set the camera to black and white. The photograph itself is still taken by the camera in color, but the image on the screen shows up in black and white. Undistracted by color it is easier to see tonal values and composition. Personally I find Black and white images to be more graphic, better eye catchers if you will. Last week I drove out to the desert to look for Mustangs and was lucky to find part of a herd. When I sat down to process the images I decided to go black and white with many of the shots. Most of them were photographed with my RF 100-500mm lens on my Canon EOS R5. The weather was stormy so I had to use ISO 800 to achieve fast shutter speeds I needed to handhold my telephoto and stop the action of the horses. (Not a problem with today's modern camera's.) While the color harmony out on the desert is usually good I thought these images stood out better in Black and white. Feel free to express your opinion. I'm always open to discussion. I think we forget in this day and age that somethings are better seen in black and white.
