We love our Storybook Santa experience sessions and the children who come to spend time with Santa Claus. But it’s not always easy. From about age 6 months to 3 years old you never know what is going to happen. We’ve had babies who are perfect while others cried the entire time. We had a three year old take one look at Santa and turn the other direction and crawl under a bench to hide. Needless to say we have had to pull all of our tricks out of the bag some days to have a successful session. Last year we had a young mother bring in her two beautiful daughters. The oldest was three and she was a special needs child. The second was a year and a half quite normal little girl. I wasn’t so much worried about the special needs child as I was her younger sister. But something happened that day that even surprised their mother. I gently set the older girl on the carpet near Santa. She could not walk so she sat stationary where I set her. Mom told me she wouldn’t really pay attention, but that day was different. That little girl zeroed in on the Claus and didn’t take her eyes off of him! Now, turning my attention to the younger sibling I found myself surprised again. That little tike stayed where ever I put her and watched Santa as well. I found myself emotionally attach to these two. That Storybook Santa Experience was, well, one for the storybook! As Santa put it when we were all done, “We just had a Christmas miracle!”
