My wife and I were in Vernal, Utah, staying with friends. We'd actually gone out to help family after a medical crisis. They have a small place for their family of five so there was no room for us other than on the living-room floor. At my age a prefer a bed and besides, my friends didn't live too far away and were very welcoming. Very early Saturday morning I received a message from my son inviting me to meet him and my grandson at Steinaker reservoir. Why not - as a landscape photographer I prefer to be out early in the morning. I quickly dressed and headed out the door with my camera in tow. After meeting we headed out along the water looking for a good place to walk onto the ice. While it was freezing cold that morning, warmer weather had the ice starting to thin around the shore. Fortunately we found a spot that had been shaded by rocks and jumped across. I know my son was hoping to find a hole left by someone else so he could do a little fishing, but being late in the season that didn't happen. still, it was nice to be out with them and taking a few pictures. While the sunrise was not anything to write home about, I still enjoyed the Ice-cold morning walk.
