I have been photographing airshow performances for a year now and having a lot of fun with it. My current camera has the capability to shoot at 30 frames per second. To add to that, the auto focus can pickup and track airplanes. I was able to capture this series of two Yaks flying at each other during Wings and Wheels in Spanish Fork, Utah. As an ex-pilot, I would like to talk to these guys about their techniques on avoiding an actual collision. I've watched the military demo team, Blue Angels, and Thunderbirds, do the same thing, only at much faster speeds. The maneuver is quite thrilling to witness. When I look at the image just before they pass each other, it's hard to believe they are not going to hit. I hope you'll enjoy this series as much as I did. I dare you to tray and figure it out for yourself. Better yet, next time there is an airshow in the neighborhood, grab your kids or grand kids and enjoy.
