Years ago a neighbor and I were planning to take our kids camping. When we started to talk food, my friend started out suggesting instant ramens. When I heard him say that it took me just two seconds to take full control of the meals. We were not backpacking. We were going to drive up, park in a designated camping spot, set up the tents and build a fire. There would be no hiking for miles loaded with camping gear! I brought a dutch oven and created a great chicken dinner followed by pancakes, eggs, and bacon for breakfast. I love to eat and I want to eat well where ever I go. That brings me to the subject of this blog. Great places to eat in Utah! I'm going to tell you about some of the great places I love to eat when I'm out and about photographing our great state. It won't be an everyday thing, just something I talk about after I eat good food when I'm traveling or just taking the wife out for dinner. Today I'm starting out with a favorite I visited in October while in Hanksville photographing the red-rock country during a Landscape workshop. There are not a lot of places to eat in Hanksville and to have a great restaurant like the Slickrock Grill makes life great! There is nothing like coming in for a hearty breakfast after getting up at 5:00am to photograph the sunrise on a chilly morning out on the desert. Their cornbread and honey butter is out of this world. I usually do pancakes or an omelette. I never go away hungry! Dinner is great too. For me it's usually late after photographing through sunset. I recommend the ribs, but it's all good and the staff are beyond friendly! It's not far from Goblin Valley or Little Wild Horse Canyon if you are looking for a good dinner before heading for home. They are not open all year round so be sure to check their schedule. Bona petite!
