I Love Ely, Nevada! It's a small town on route 50, known as the loneliest road in America so what's the attraction? A great Hotel, great Mexican food, and trains. I have two passions in this world. One is photography and the other is trains. I love trains! Ely is host for the Nevada Northern Railway, a railroad that once served the nearby mine and smelter. but now serves the community as a tourist attraction. I first found the Nevada many years ago while following the loneliest road on our way to California. What struck me then and still today is they let you freely wander the grounds while the work. All they ask is you don't climb on the equipment and try not to fall into the pits. The engine house is my favorite, full of tools, machinery, and train locomotives. The folks welcome you and love to talk about what is going on. I'd love to take my grandchildren out to ride the train and see the sites. It is great to see the success of such an attraction in such a small town in the middle of seemingly nowhere. But to call it nowhere is hardly fair. The people are friendly, the food is good, and the Nevada Hotel is a great place to stay.
