I love Halloween and miss the days of taking my children trick-or-treating. Last night one of my sons had to work so I drove out to Vernon to take his boys, 3 of my grandsons, out for the candy run. Vernon is a very small (with a capital S - Small.) town. There was a bit of distance between houses giving out candy. My wife had come out with me and volunteered to hand out candy so my daughter-in-law could come along. After a quick portrait, they all sat in the back of my pickup truck and I drove them down the road from home to home. The two youngest boys lasted about 45 minutes before they decided they were too cold so mom took them home, but the oldest and I decided to continue. I ditched the truck and the two of us started walking down the road. We only hit 4 or 5 houses (Keep in mind they were not exactly close to each other.) before he decided he was done. As we walked back to his house he said, "Grandpa, thanks for taking me out tonight." We then both let the other know how much we loved each other. It doesn't get any sweeter than that between a 9 year old and an almost 70 year old.
