Like a crazy man I took an offer to teach high school photography at a local private school, called American Heritage School. I'm not doing it for the money (Not that they are not paying me a nice hourly wage - it's just that I only teach a couple of hours a week so it's not making me rich). It's just something that has always been on my bucket list. The school isn't in a great location for photography, but I'm taking advantage of that to teach the students to find images, even in a location that doesn't seem all that interesting. It takes lots of practice. Our only assignment this term is to create a photograph for our class competition. There are some stipulations like they have to be black and white, and creative, for instance. The last few weeks I've been taking them to the same place every time we go out. It's not what you would call a super interesting location, being out on and around the school's athletic fields. The images I've included here are photographs I took while out with the students. They are not my best work because I spend a lot of time talking to my kids, but they prove to them that good images can be found in places you wouldn't normally expect to find them. I finally asked them one day why they thought I was taking them to the same old place. One student blared out, "you want us to learn to see." Exactly!
