I recently gave an online presentation to the Intermountain Professional Photographer’s Association. I titled it “Get Out of the House.” It’s a bit of a long story as to how I arrived at that title, but the point was to teach my fellow photographers a few things that I use in my landscape photography. Of course the first thing you have to do to create landscape photographs is to get out of the house and go do it! (I won’t discourage you by telling you what time you need to walk out the door.) The point is you will naturally find landscape picture taking hard to do if you don’t leave home. Well, I’m doing just that this weekend. Friday morning will find me and my gear heading down the road in my pickup truck to southern Utah for a landscape workshop. But wait Ted – aren’t you are already a professional photographer I hear you ask? Yes I am, but I am always learning. I’m planning to sell fine art landscape images at some point in the future so I’m honing my skills. I’m also getting together with other photographers and friends for a weekend of fun and photography. Three of my awards winning photographs this year’s International Print Competition were taken down south in red rock country so I’m hoping for more inspiration this year. You never know until you are there. But you don’t always have to go far. I’m luckier than many. The images I’m posting here were taken between my front porch and 100 feet down the road. But even then when I’m headed out to create photographs I’m usually off to distant places around the state. So if you want to take great landscape images don't forget to get out of bed and out of the house!
